Here ya go Patrick …
The Oregon Department of State Lands recently issued a permit allowing the Port of Coos Bay to conduct the largest dredging project in an estuary in state history. The permit allows for dredging of the first 1.75 million cubic yards (mcy) of a 5.6-mcy project.
The reason for the massive dredging effort: Coos Bay—a town of about 16,000 people on the remote southern Oregon coast—has been targeted for construction of a coal export terminal and a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility.

In the first major study of the impact of the world’s worst nuclear crisis in 25 years, the researchers, from Japan, the US and Denmark, said their analysis of 14 species of bird common to Fukushima and Chernobyl, the Ukrainian city which suffered a similar nuclear meltdown, showed the effect on abundance is worse in the Japanese disaster zone.
The study, published next week in the journal Environmental Pollution, suggests that its findings demonstrate “an immediate negative consequence of radiation for birds during the main breeding season [of] March [to] July”.

I see that as potential. Lots of it. Just like people (people who generally haven’t thought much about the future of liquid fuels) look at China and see potential for a new dawn of the motoring dream. Bicycle-commuting only has one way to go in much of the US. It’s primarily a cultural thing.

Hey, with “the right policies,” we can make this resource available to Royal Dutch Shell. “Right policies” would include taxpayer subsidies and environmental de-regulation. Then they can sell 100k bpd or so. Never mind that it could very well take over 100k bpd equivalent to make 100k bpd of oil out of Colorado kerogen. And there is no water available to do anything, let alone process “oil shale.” But with the “right policies” … anything is possible.
Note — “oil shale” is not “shale oil.” “Oil shale” is not oil and usually not shale either.

“Neither administration has prosecuted any elite CEO for the epidemic of mortgage fraud that drove the ongoing crisis. This contrasts with over 1,000 elite felony convictions arising from the S&L debacle. The ongoing crisis caused losses more than 70 times greater than the S&L debacle and the amount of elite fraud driving this crisis is also vastly greater than during the S&L debacle. Bank CEOs leading “accounting control frauds” now do so with impunity from the criminal laws. They become wealthy through fraud and even if they are sued civilly they almost invariably walk away wealthy with the proceeds of their frauds.”
